So now it's hacksaw time. Dull hacksaw time, because the sharp blades were in the same box as the bandsaw blade. And the bench the vise belongs on isn't available (it was my kitchen table). This was not fun.

Luckily I had my assortments of material.

So brass plate and brass tubing were the choice. Not only are they strong enough, but in the end, wow, they look great, too.

The tubing needed to be turned down a trillioth of a micrometer or so. Emery cloth worked great, and the finish is gorgeous.

And now for the flanges. This is 3/32" 340 free-machining brass. I profiled down to just above the lower surface due to mounting constraints. For some reason, I didn't use tabs to support the inner parts the way I did with the dog tags, so the cleanup was unnecessarily difficult.

Yep, I definitely should have used bridge tabs (see the spacers on the next page) because the edges are a little sloppy (by my standards) when I cleaned them up by hand. The cuts are straight, but the roundover is inconsistent.

The joints were brazed with silver solder. I did destructive testing on a sample, and it was very strong.

And here's the actual assembly.
