But the long distance (seven feet) needed pipe clamps. I had the clamps already, but not pipe of this length. I didn't feel like buying eight-foot metal ones just for this project, so I used PVC plastic, which is very unorthodox.

Since these pipes aren't treaded, they won't mate with the clamps. They also won't even fit, so I had to shave them in diameter.

|
Instead of threading, the clamps are pinned by the screws. This wouldn't be adequate for serious clamping, but the trim doesn't require much force.

But I continued. Here's the trim in place.

And some medium-colored stain. I'd normally go with something lighter like golden oak, but I thought I'd try something different.

This is an old house, so I had to replace the original receptacle with a grounded one. But there was no ground, so that green wire had to run into the basement to a bonded water pipe. (Yes, it took three tries to drill that hole.)

All done at this point, with a nice outside view, except with the sun comes around.

And here it is being put to good use: "Dad, this toy, it's not going to play with itself, you know!"

It wasn't a priority (meaning I still haven't done it), but I plan to add a back panel below for a shelf, and to hide the wires.
